ITINERARY |
FRI, NOV 5: Depart U.S.A. for DublinBoard our chartered private motor coach from Visalia and Fresno to San Francisco for our overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service as you travel to start your vacation in beautiful Ireland. SAT, NOV 6: Dublin Arrival & Jameson DistilleryAshling Hotel, Dublin — 2 NightsAfter landing at Dublin Airport, complete customs and immigration formalities. Then your CIE Tours driver/guide will welcome you to Ireland and escort you and your luggage to the coach. Take an orientation drive around Dublin city center. Dublin is one of the liveliest capitals in Europe but there are plenty of historical places also. See the main thoroughfares of O'Connell Street and Nassau Street, the shopping streets and some lovely public parks. Stop to vist the Old Jameson Distillery where you can learn about distillation processes for this "water of life" and at the end of the tour enjoy a sample. After settling into your hotel, meet with your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome drink and discuss your itinerary. In the evening, you are free to choose from the many restaurants and pubs that Dublin offers. SUN, NOV 7: Dublin's Highlights & Leisure TimeThis morning set off with a local guide to discover the delights of central Dublin with public buildings, elegant Georgian townhouses and squares, as well as modern sculptures and busy shopping hubs. Visit Trinity College to see the Book of Kells, an 8th century illuminated manuscript of the gospels and see the Old Library. The balance of the day is free in Dublin where you can choose from a wide variety of pursuits. There are plenty of museums of Irish interest such as the National Museum, the National Gallery, or the Writers Museum. Or explore the many shops along Nassau Street and the pedestrianized Grafton Street or Henry street, and you may like to vist Temple Bar or visit some of the traditional pubs. MON, NOV 8: Farney & Blarney CastlesKillarney Towers Hotel, Killarney — 3 NightsDepart Dublin to travel through the Irish countryside where you can see the "Forty Shades of Green" as you pass many farms. In County Tipperary, stop to visit Farney Castle, the only round tower in Ireland occupied as a family home. The first castle was built in 1185 and would have been a timbered structure. The present round tower was built in 1495 as part of a defensive system protecting the owner's land. Continue south past the gentle slopes of the Galtee Mountains to vist Blarney Castle where you may climb to the battlements to acquire the "gift of eloquence" by kissing the famous stone. Also visit the Blarney Woolen Mills, which has an excellent range of Irish products of all types. Travel through the rugged countryside of County Kerry where the town of Killarney is charmingly located with a backdrop of mountains and lakes. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy some time to settle in before joining your group for dinner. TUE, NOV 9: Ring of Kerry & Skelling ExperienceToday admire breathtaking vistas of mountains, cliffs, and beaches on Ireland's most popular drive. See a variety of natural beauty as you drive 100 miles around this scenic route. Cross to Valencia Island by bridge to visit the Skellig Experience, which describes the way of life of early Christian monks who built their monastery on one of the offshore islands. Also learn about the many birds that nest in the Skelligs. A number of stops will allow you to admire the spectacular scenery and take a brief walk around the colorful village of Sneem. Head back to Killarney through Moll's Gap with stunning views of the Lakes of Killarney. In the evening, you are free to choose from the many restaurants and pubs that Killarney has to offer. WED, NOV 10: Dingle Penninsula & Blasket CentreToday discover the beauties of the Dingle Peninsula, made famous by David Lean's movie, "Ryan's Daughter." Drive along the south shore of the peninsula for plenty of vistas of heathery mountains, sandy stretches of beach, and rocky headlands. There will be frequent stops at strategic locations to admire the views and take photos. Stop in Dingle before continuing to the western tip of the peninsula. Visit the Blasket Centre in Dunquin to learn about the Blasket Islands, inhabited until 1953 by hardy families who eked out a living by farming and fishing.
