Strengthening the Pro-Life / Pro-Family Culture
in the Hispanic Community
Latinos4Life
Maricela (Mari) Lupercio, our Latinos4Life Director, has a passion for reaching out to Hispanic families and youth.
Lati
no culture is very rich in faith and family values; but, sadly, core beliefs are often watered down by outside influences.
What young people are learning today — via television, movies, music, and the internet — has a strong influence on what they think and how they act.
Unfortunately, most of what they are watching and listening to is sexually saturated, so it is no wonder that teen pregnancy, abortion, and STD rates are very high in the Latino community.
So what does Latinos4Life do to bring truth and light to these issues?
Mari has been participating in various health fairs and events throughout Tulare and Kings Counties by setting up fun and educational information booths.

When Mari first came to work for TKRL, she was surprised that the majority of Hispanics who visit her booth are both shocked and amazed to learn the facts about fetal development and abortion.
Of course, we've found that's not unusual for the general population either.
Mari enjoys meeting the hundreds of families who flood to her booth to see and touch the baby models. She instructs toddlers and children about what they looked like in their mothers’ wombs. She has even had veteran mothers visit who have never seen an ultrasound image of a preborn baby!
And many women pour their hearts out to Mari — sharing their own stories of abortions, miscarriage, and infertility.
Another important part of the work of Latinos4Life is offering free Pro-Life and Chastity Presentations, as well as participating in True Love Waits events.
Mari always covers these four main points ...
- An overview of her own life as a teen
- The miracle of life in the womb
- The shocking reality of abortion
- The importance of purity
Teens learn the real consequences of their behaviors and are encouraged to take the narrow road.
Many of the girls Mari works with make a purity pledge after learning about the devastating effects of sexual immorality. Mari keeps in contact with many of these teens through Facebook and texting in order to provide an ongoing strong positive influence.

"I was doing a presentation for an adult class at a church. I noticed that one of the students that had come in late seemed very distraught. At the end of the abortion part of the presentation, this woman asked to share something. She then turned to look at her classmates. With tears in her eyes, she stated that she had missed the previous class meeting because her 15-year-old son had gotten his girlfriend pregnant. She had been pressuring them both to have an abortion and was caught off guard when she realized what the class meeting was about. After seeing what would actually happen during the abortion procedure, she felt guilty for wanting her grandchild to be aborted. All she could say was ... 'I didn't know.' She told the class that now she would support her son and help however she could. She realized she was already a grandmother, and began to care about her unborn grandchild."
